Mumbai on Friday woke up to a generally cloudy sky and the weather department has predicted that there was possibility of light to moderate rains at isolated locations.
The weather bulletin said that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may also occur in some parts of the city and its suburbs.
According the Regional Meteorological Department's local forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 24 hours, "There is a possibility of moderate rain and thunderstorms with cloudy skies at isolated places in the city and suburbs. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 34 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively."
Between 8:00 AM on June 5 and 8:00 AM on June 6, the island city recorded 0.01 mm of rainfall. The eastern suburbs received 3.26 mm, while the western suburbs registered 1.07 mm, indicating moderate precipitation across the city.
On June 6, a high tide of 3.40 meters was expected at 9:18 AM.
An another high tide of 3.43 meters is expected at 8:42 PM.
Low tides are predicted at 2:44 PM (2.28 metres) and 03:07 AM (1.33 metres) on June 7.
Meanwhile, water levels in 7 lakes supplying water to Mumbai was at 11.77 per cent, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data released on Thursday morning.
The average water stock in the seven lakes that supply drinking water to Mumbai dipped to 11.77 per cent (1.7 lakh million litres) on Thursday morning, significantly lower than 22.66 per cent recorded one month ago, on May 5, 2025.
At full capacity, the lakes can hold 14.5 lakh million litres of water.
On Wednesday, June 4, the lake levels were recorded at 12.14 per cent (1.75 lakh million litres).
On the same day a year ago, on June 5, 2024, water stock was significantly lower at 6.78 per cent, and on June 5, 2023, it was recorded at 11.58 per cent.
Even though the monsoon arrived early this year on May 25, 2025, the catchment areas of these seven lakes have not received sufficient rainfall, leading to the deficit. In the past 24 hours, between 6 am on June 4 and 6 am on June 5, none of the seven lakes received any rainfall, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data.
Since the onset of the monsoon this year, the catchment area of the Tulsi river has received 78 mm of rainfall, followed by Bhatsa, which has received 49 mm of rainfall. Middle Vaitarna has received 30 mm, Vihar has received 21 mm, Upper Vaitarna has received 17 mm, Modak Sagar has received 16 mm, and Tansa has received 12 mm.
Thane district records 6.84 mm rainfall in six hours
Thane district received 6.84 mm of rainfall between 08:30 hrs and 14:30 hrs on Friday, with the heaviest spell recorded at 13:30 hrs (5.58 mm).
Light rain was also observed at 10:30 hrs (0.25 mm) and 14:30 hrs (1.01 mm), while other hours saw no significant rainfall.
The total rainfall for today now stands at 6.84 mm, contributing to a seasonal total of 323.84 mm so far. On the same date last year, the district had recorded 7.10 mm of rainfall.
