Mumbai Police have announced elaborate security and traffic arrangements across the city for New Year’s Eve on December 31, 2025, with over 17,000 personnel keeping vigil as large crowds are expected at public places and celebration hubs
Massive security across the city ahead of New Year's eve
Mumbai Police on Tuesday announced elaborate security arrangements, deploying over 17,000 personnel across the city, to ensure peaceful and safe New Year’s Eve 2025 celebrations on December 31, 2025. With large crowds expected at religious programmes, public places, hotels, and shopping malls on New Year’s Eve 2025.
Mumbai Police have also put in place an extensive security and traffic management plan to ensure a safe and incident-free New Year’s Eve across the city.
Under the guidance of Mumbai Police Commissioner and the supervision of senior law-and-order and traffic officers, the Mumbai Police in a statement said, “A comprehensive bandobast has been planned citywide. The arrangements aim to maintain law and order as citizens step out in large numbers to welcome the New Year.”
Senior Mumbai Police officers deployed
According to the police, the deployment includes 10 additional commissioners of police, 38 deputy commissioners, and 61 assistant commissioners, along with 2,790 police officers, and 14,200 police constables. In addition, specialised units such as SRPF platoons, quick response teams (QRTs), bomb detection and disposal squads (BDDS), RCP platoons, and home guards have been positioned at sensitive and high-footfall locations.
The police also highlighted that naka-bandis (checkpoints) will be set up across the city, while intensified patrolling and fixed-point security arrangements will be implemented in crowded areas, including popular celebration zones, major roads, and public venues.
It also mentioned that traffic police teams will also be deployed in large numbers to manage congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement.
Senior officers said focus will be on preventing untoward incidents, regulating crowds, and ensuring quick responses to emergencies. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with police personnel, follow traffic and safety rules, and celebrate responsibly.
Mumbai Police have appealed to the public to immediately contact the emergency 100 or 112 helpline numbers in case of any urgent police assistance.
A senior police officer said, “With public cooperation, we aim to ensure that the New Year is welcomed safely and peacefully.”
