Shiv Sena was on backfoot during MVA regime: Vijay Shivtare

Shiv Sena legislators were not getting funds and party workers were feeling "suffocated" when the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government was in power in Maharashtra, rebel leader Vijay Shivtare said here on Thursday.

By joining hands with the Congress and NCP, the party's traditional opponents, the Shiv Sena's Hindutva ideology was "weakened", he added.

Shivtare, a former minister, belongs to the rebel Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

He, along with rebel Sena MP Krupal Tumane and others, was speaking to the media here.

"Shiv Sena was buit with the sacrifices and efforts of thousands of Shiv Sainiks and it's not a party of any one family," Shivtare said.

"During the MVA regime, Shiv Sena was on the backfoot even though the party had the chief minister's post," he said.

Tumane said the Shinde faction will contest coming local body elections in alliance with the BJP.
