Train services to remain affected on Sept 26 as new lines between Thane and Diva take shape

Work on Thane-Diva line has a March 2022 deadline

Do not travel on the Central Railway (CR) Mumbai’s mainline this Sunday as the decade-old pending work of new lines between Thane and Diva finally takes shape. Train services will remain badly affected throughout the day with the 10-hour work schedule planned. The CR has formally requested the Thane Municipal Transport and the state government to run an additional 100 bus services.

A senior official said that approximately 90 (up and down) services would be affected and suburban services, especially between Kalwa and Mumbra will be affected. Work will be taken up between the Kalwa-Mumbra section on the CSMT-bound slow line from 8 am to 6 pm in connection with slewing of the line for Thane-Diva’s fifth and sixth lines.

Extra bus services

“We have requested the state government and local transport authorities to run around 100 buses for passengers to commute between Thane-Diva, Dombivli and up to Kalyan during the work period with halts at Kalwa, Mumbra, Diva, Kopar and Dombivli stations,” a railway official said.

All CSMT-bound slow/semi-fast services leaving Kalyan from 7.27 am to 5.40 pm will be diverted on the fast line between Diva and Mulund stations, then further redirected at Mulund and will arrive at their destination 10 minutes behind schedule.

All locals leaving Mumbai CSMT between 8 am and 5 pm and arriving there between 9 am and 7 pm will arrive at their destination 10 minutes behind schedule. The project now has a March 2022 deadline. Once complete, the project will help the CR add nearly 100 more local services as Diva-Thane is the busiest corridor at present.
