While there is much hue and cry in the city over residents’ names going missing from the voters’ list, bundles of voter ID and ration cards were found abandoned in the premises of the old Collectorate office in Camp yesterday.

RPI (Matang) volunteer Hanumant Sathe found 50 voters’ ID and ration cards, mainly of people with addresses in Shivaji Nagar, Bhavani Peth and Yerawada areas.

“I immediately informed the resident district collector Suresh Jadhav and also submitted a plea that he should look into the matter,” said Sathe. However, according to Sathe, Jadhav rubbished this issue, saying that the voter ID and ration cards had been kept in the premises for the purpose of disposal.

When mid-day contacted Jadhav, he said that the voter ID cards were defective. “Those were old voter ID cards. Recently, the office of the Collectorate has been shifted to Council Hall and it might be possible that our employees forgot to take that bundle of voter ID and ration cards along with them while shifting the office,” Jadhav said. He added that the cards had been sent to the DRO (District Returning Officer) for further investigations.
