The City Industrial and Development Corporation is taking the development in Navi Mumbai very seriously. Three months after her appointment as the Joint Managing Director of CIDCO, V Radha addressed a group of mediapersons at the CIDCO office in Belapur, Navi Mumbai, and revealed her plans for the future.

One of the chief projects Radha spoke about was Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA). CIDCO is keen on developing a township around the proposed airport near Panvel. The residential space will span over 500 sq km.

“NAINA will be a game-changer for sure. When we presented the project proposal to the Chief Minister, he thought it was one of the best things he had heard and should be marketed globally. NAINA is an exciting project in India waiting to take off, but it cannot be a reality without land acquisition,” said Radha.

However, Radha added that nobody should be a loser in the creation of a new city and that CIDCO would go for a win-win concept for the project. CIDCO is going to take up the city-level infrastructure work soon, and the first round of capital would be utilised for the same.
The IAS officer also spoke about the Metro, which will be coming up from Belapur to Pendhar. CIDCO is overseeing planning and construction of Phase-1 of the project and has received two bids from contractors so far. The deadline for bidding of has been extended to October 30.

The new airport
The proposed new airport near Panvel has been stuck in the process of land acquisition. The state government had offered 22.5 per cent of the developed land to the Project Affected Persons (PAP) as compensation. However, the PAP were demanding more.u00a0But Radha was confident that a positive solution would be arrived at soon. “I have visited the villages myself. I had face-to-face conversations with the villagers. We have understood the issues and grievances of the PAP and CIDCO will acquire land in a way that will also benefit the villagers,” explained the Joint MD.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, during his recent visit to Navi Mumbai, had also assured the villagers saying, “PAP will be given good compensation without which their land will not be taken away. We want to work in a way that will also be beneficial to future generations of PAP.”

With the Prime Minister’s Office setting a deadline of February 2013 for land acquisition in major infrastructure projects (the Navi Mumbai airport is included in the list), CIDCO believes this will help accelerate the process.
