The ongoing French Fest musters raison d'etre to keep you hooked this entire week. Catch a collection of offbeat French films depicting some of the most interesting period in the history of French cinema

Bonjour India-French Festival brings in the city a collection of films belonging to the New Wave era of French cinema. "Today's generation needs to get to watch these films. They teach one to watch movies differently," says, Anuradha Narayan, administrator of Alliance Francaise, Bangalore.

Anuradha adds, "It shows that it is possible to make films out of the system, in small budgets, with new actors, new cameras, and with more freedom. Cinema is strong, but nothing as compared to TV and video games." These films project an interesting period in history, being the reason for cine lovers to watch them.

La baie des anges (Bay of the Angels)
Jean Fournier is a young bank employee. Caron, his friend introduces him to gambling. Jean wins money in a game of roulette and goes for a vacation to Nice. There he meets Jackie, a divorcee and a single mother. Jackie assures Jean of her love, but says that her inclination for gambling maybe more than her affection for him. Jean feels jealous but is seduced by the possibility of a luxurious lifestyle offered by gambling.

La boulangere de Monceau (The Bakery girl of Monceau)

A young man studies in Paris. He sees a girl on the streets everyday and is attracted to her. However, he fails to muster the courage to speak to her. When he ultimately decides to confess his feelings she is nowhere to be seen. He goes on waiting for her. While waiting one day, he goes to a pastry shop and meets the baker's daughter. Soon a new friendship develops. Find out what happens henceforth.

Cleo de 5 a 7 (Cleo from 5 to 7)

Cleo, a French singer is afraid to get the result of a test from her doctor. She thinks that she has cancer. She walks along the streets of Paris for two hours. She visits a fortune-teller and a soldier, who is going to the war in Algeria. She has a brief affair with him. Finally she goes to the doctor.

Jules and Jim
Jules, a German and Jim, a Frenchman are two writers. They become friends. They go to Greece and study the statue of a woman with an enchanting smile. Once they come back, they meet Catherine, who resembles the statue. However, she falls in love with Jule and decides to get married to him. The World War I separates the three of them. However, after some years Jim returns to see Catherine married to Jule and realises he still loves her.

Alphaville, A Strange Adventure of Lemmy Caution (Alphaville)
Lemmy Caution, a private investigator arrives in the strange town to meet Professor Von Braun. But soon Lemmy realises that it is an alien world, where love is lost and death is the punishment of any show of emotion. A computer at the center of the town controls the action and thoughts of all the inhabitants. Suddenly Professor Von Braun decides to declare war on the world.

Le beau Serge (Handsome Serge)
After many years, Francois, a young man returns to his home in rural France. He finds a dejected community, who feels that there is nothing more to do. Meanwhile, Serge, his childhood friend is trapped in a loveless marriage and becomes an alcoholic. Francois decides to help his friend and his hometown.
