PM Modi twists Rahul's statements to inflame communal prejudices: Congress

The Congress on Sunday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his "insulted maharajas but silent on atrocities of sultans" attack on Rahul Gandhi, saying that PM Modi "maliciously twists" every statement of Rahul Gandhi to inflame communal prejudices and passions, reported the ANI. The opposition party's remarks came after PM Modi on Sunday reportedly accused Rahul Gandhi of insulting India's rajas and maharajas but remaining silent on the atrocities committed by nawabs, nizams, sultans and badshahs for the sake of appeasement politics, as per the ANI. Hitting back at the prime minister, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote on X, "He (PM Modi) maliciously and mischievously twists every statement of Rahul Gandhi to inflame, incite and ignite communal prejudices and passions."  "His (PM Modi's) exit is inevitable and his realisation of that is making him more and more desperate. His campaign speeches are shameful really," Jairam Ramesh said. Addressing a mega public rally in Karnataka's Belagavi, PM Modi said, "The Congress has ensured the writings of our history and our freedom struggle with an eye on appeasement and vote bank. Even today, the Congress' shehzade (prince)' is carrying forward that sin. You might have heard Congress' shehzade's recent statement -- he says Bharat's rajas and maharajas were 'atyachari (oppressive)'," according to the ANI. "He (Rahul Gandhi) has accused them (rajas and maharajas) of usurping the lands and properties of people and poor ¿ The Congress' shehzade has insulted great personalities like Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Kittur Rani Channamma, whose administration and patriotism inspires us even today," the prime minister said, the ANI reported on Sunday. Recalling the contribution of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family for which they are respected across the country even today, he said, "The Congress' shehzade's statements were intentional, aimed at vote bank politics and appeasement." "Shehzade spoke ill about rajas, maharajas but shahzade's mouth was locked regarding the 'atyachar' that the nawabs, nizams, sultans and badshahs committed in India's history. His mouth was shut on them but on rajas, maharajas he speaks ill and insults them," he said, the news agency reported. Rahul Gandhi cannot remember Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's oppressions, Modi said and added, "He (Aurangzeb) impured a number of our temples and destroyed those. The Congress is happily making alliances with parties that praise Aurangzeb ¿ It doesn't remember people who destroyed our religious places, indulged in killing, killing of cows. It doesn't remember the nawab who played a role in the partition of India," an ANI report stated. He further recalled the contributions of the Raja of Banaras in setting up Banaras Hindu University and Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar in the reconstruction of temples, as per the ANI. (with ANI inputs)

Uptrend in the stock market may continue for the coming week

According to market analysts, the rise in the stock market may continue for the coming week after the US market showed a robust performance. The coming week will see the dominance by the corporate earnings releases and the highly anticipated Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting which is scheduled for April 30 to May 1. Despite looming challenges anticipated for May, the experts highlighted that overall Asian Markets are self-assured to carry forward the bullish sentiment as April draws to a close. Also Read: Woman held for killing man after hitting him on his private parts "We expect positive markets this week, driven by continued corporate earnings catalysts, and In India, we expect sideways to slightly positive markets this week. The strong earnings and guidance from US Big Tech bolstered the market last week said Ajay Bagga, Market and Banking expert. "Nifty continues to remain in an uptrend in the medium term. For the week, we expect Nifty to trade in the range of 22900-22000 with mixed bias" said Rajesh Palviya SVP Research (Head Technical & Derivatives) Axis Securities Ltd. If Nifty crosses and sustains above 22600 level it would witness buying which would lead the index towards 22800-22900 levels, said Rajesh Palviya SVP Research Axis Securities Ltd. The anticipated rate cuts by the Federal Reserve in 2024 are expected to diminish real yields, rendering gold and silver more appealing as non-yielding assets, and the continuous global uncertainties, encompassing geopolitical tensions and economic instabilities, bolster the allure of gold and silver as safe-haven assets and can pose a risk on the market. In the last week, the benchmark indices continued positive momentum, the Nifty ended 1.23 per cent higher while the Sensex was up by 642 points. Among sectors, all the major sectoral indices registered buying interest but the PSU Bank index outperformed and gained 6.5 percent. During the week, the market bounced back sharply but on last Friday it witnessed profit booking at higher levels. (With ANI Inputs)

"Despite being a woman, Mamata tried to protect Sheikh Shahjahan," says Nadda

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saying she allegedly protected Sheikh Shahjahan though atrocities were committed against women in Sandeshkhali, according to the ANI. Nadda was addressing a Lok sabha elections 2024 rally in West Bengal's Ranaghat on Sunday.  He said, "Atrocities were committed against women. They were insulted in Sandeshkhali, but despite being a woman CM Mamata Banerjee kept on trying to protect Sheikh Shahjahan. Despite being a woman, she did not think about mothers or sisters," the ANI reported on Sunday. Nadda further said, "TMC goons and intruders are encroaching on lands of poor farmers," the news agency reported. The BJP president also questioned the people asking, "Do you want this type of government do you want to send such representatives to Delhi? They should be wiped out of Kolkata as well," the ANI reported. Earlier, talking up hopes of the lotus blooming in Mamata Banerjee's West Bengal, JP Nadda said that the BJP will register thumping wins in the more than 35 constituencies in the state as the people were fed with the 'anarchy' in the state under the ruling Trinamool Congress. According to the ANI, Coming down heavily on the TMC regime over the alleged abuse and excesses on women, as well as charges of land-grab in Sandeshkhali, JP Nadda said that it was 'painful' to see women coming out on the streets and saying that they were being threatened by goons enjoying the patronage of the ruling party in the state. In a personalised video address, the BJP national president said, "We have seen how under the Mamata Banerjee government, the state is being run by strongmen and goons, and how the likes of (Sheikh) Shahjahan were intimidating women and posing a threat to their safety in Sandeshkhali. The prevailing situation, in a nutshell, is sensitive and painful. Teams from central investigating agencies, which went to Sandeshkhali to protect the honour and dignity of women, were thwarted and attacked," the ANI reported. Voting for three Lok Sabha seats - Balurghat, Raiganj, and Darjeeling-concluded in the second phase of the parliamentary election held on Friday. Voting in the state for 42 parliamentary members is set for all seven phases in the ongoing general elections that commenced on April 19 and will conclude on June 1. (with ANI inputs)

PM reducing dignity of post with his utterances, claims Cong leader Singhvi

Senior Congress leader Abhisekh Manu Singhvi on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was reducing the dignity of his post and that of the Constitution for recently claiming in a Lok Sabha elections 2024 rally in Banswara of Rajasthan that the opposition party will redistribute citizens' wealth to "infiltrators" and "those producing more children", the PTI reported. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was undermining democratic institutions using money, vendetta politics and through misuse of government agencies, Abhisekh Manu Singhvi alleged, as per the PTI. "In the last 75 years, no prime minister has used such words for 'mithya prachar' (false campaign) that he used in Banswara and many times after that. You have reached the level of statesman after 10 years of being prime minister, but you speak such things. You are reducing the dignity of your position and that of the Constitution," Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Abhisekh Manu Singhvi said, the news agency reported on Sunday. "This not about Hindu-Muslim riots, this is about the election. And when they (BJP) learned such an inheritance tax was abolished by Congress government two three decades back, the PM brought out a new jumla saying (former prime minister) Rajiv Gandhi did it to inherit the property of Indira Gandhi," Abhisekh Manu Singhvi claimed, according to the PTI. Queried about Union Home Minister Amit Shah accusing Rahul Gandhi of spreading lies that the BJP would ends quotas for SCs, STs and OBCs, Abhisekh Manu Singhvi said that he was glad "someone in the BJP is talking about accountability, distortion, digression and 'mithya prachar' (false campaign)." "I wish the same person had talked about these four words a few weeks ago in Banswara or the other poll rallies of the PM," Singhvi added. There is no comparison in the last 75 years to utterances of the PM in this Lok Sabha poll campaign, but all these attempts are bound to fail, he said. "They reflect the desperation of the BJP. It is not cultured or fair. It is false and it is not anywhere near the democratic ethos of India," he said, as per the PTI. Abhisekh Manu Singhvi also criticised the Election Commission of India for giving a notice to the BJP president on the Congress complaint to the poll body against the PM for his statement. "This is a complaint against an individual. What is the use of giving notice to another person," the senior Congress leader questioned. He also alleged "vitamin M (an apparent reference to money) was being used to lure leaders into the BJP and cited happenings in the Surat Lok Sabha poll (where the BJP candidate won unopposed), the Chandigarh mayoral elections and the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Sabha elections. "You will be surprised to know that almost one-fourth of BJP candidates are from other parties. Out of 417 candidates announced by BJP, 116 are dalbadlu (turncoats). Of course most of them are from Congress," Singhvi said. Central probe agencies are being misused against opposition parties and 99.5 per cent political cases being pursued by them are against opposition members, he claimed. "The BJP has a washing machine. If any of the accused joins that party they get a clean chit," he jibed, a PTI report stated. (with PTI inputs)
