Jazz band uses tunes of popular mantras to prove a point

Bangalore-based jazz group, Earth, is using bhajans to give the moral police a rap on its knuckles.

"The city has seen a lot in the last three-four months and we had to do something to spread peace and harmony. So, in a span of two weeks we came out with this album," said lead singer Ravi Nandan (40).

Table player Anshuman Seth says: "We basically started our music careers by singing bhajans. So we don't want to forget our roots and it also defines who we are."

The bhajans are catchy and will soon be available as ring tones and caller tunes.

"We are not trying to market ourselves. This is a genuine effort by us. I've been in Bangalore for a long time and can't see all this happening. Pensioners' Paradise is no longer safe and there is no respect for women anymore," says Arulmurugan, base guitarist.

There is also a song on women set to the tune of Jai Kali Maa, the song that symbolizes the strength of a women and is specially dedicated to Pramod Muthalik," says Anshuman.
