Met department predicts low lying areas will be flooded, and Bangaloreans can expect severe traffic jams
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in urban Bangalore in the coming week.
Nearly 60 cms of rainfall is likely to deluge low lying areas like Koramangala, Lakshmi Layout, J P Nagar and IT districts like Electronic City.
IMD persons from Chennai said they were watching the changes in the Bay of Bengal, which initiates clouds in the southern parts. The situation will become grave if a cyclone hits southern India.
Scattered heavy to isolated very heavy rain is likely to occur over coastal and north interior Karnataka during the next 48 hours.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur over south interior Karnataka while isolated heavy rain is likely to occur over Central and South western Karnataka during the same period. According to CPC sources, the storm might also hit central and western parts of India.

Lives of Bangaloreans are likely to be thrown off gear in the coming week.
The settled drains and tar-based roads are not sufficient to drain out the rainwater. That will lead to more traffic jams, especially in the low-lying areas.
Bharat Lal Meena, commissioner BBMP said, "We have heard that Bangalore will see more rain in the coming days and we are trying our best. We are taking steps to avert any further disaster. We are warning people in the low lying areas, we have got our disaster management team on alert. We are cleaning the drains so contagious diseases don't spread from them.
Muttanna, DCP, traffic and security said, "We haven't yet taken any precautions, but we are ready to manage traffic jams when they occur. We may divert the traffic and the law and order department will appoint extra security if needed."
