What if the government agency that is well-equipped in ensuring cyber safety provide their expertise to corporates, banks and other institutes at certain cost?

CM said that there could no better agency than Maharashtras own cyber safety mechanism, the first ever any state in the country country to have built so far, for safeguarding digital systems of companies, corporations, banks and financial institutes. Mumbai is populated by highest number of such institutes that depend largely on digital platforms that are under constant threat from malwares and hackers, he said.

The government will certainely stand to make a good revenue through this measure, felt CM Devendra Fadnavis. A proposal of commercialising state police's cyber prowess was floated by Special Inpector General Brijesh Singh on the occasion of launching of 44 cyber forensic laboratories across the state on Monday.

Singh said that the state should market its cyber expertise to all stakeholders and benefit financially by offering services. He said that the government may even export its cyber cabilities.

"The government has given you money to build the system. I'm sure that, if this commercial aspect is exploited further, the cyber department will return the investment made," said Fadnavis.

Maharashtra's very own Computer Emergency Response Team (MH-CERT) is expected to be ready by end of this year, and it will be a key to providing a fitting reply to cyberattacks on our virtual world. This system will work for preventing digital blows to important installations, data centres, banks and other financial institutes. CERT will also create cyber intelligence and help state police in predictive policing.

Fadnavis told mid-day that Maharashtra has become a pioneer in cyber safety programme, and the Centre now wants his officers to take it to other states by sharing their technical expertise. “This is going to be another feather in our cap,” he said.
