Abductor lured 9-year-old with promise of vada pav, demanded Rs 50,000 ransom

A Hinjewadi-based civil contractor Mukesh Verma's kidnapped nine-year-old son, Ajay, was rescued by the police after the arrest of a youth.

The police arrested Mohammed Jakeen Mohammed Radiq alias Jakru (22) of Shikrapur in the district for the kidnap.

The police said Jakru demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000 from the civil contractor.

Police Inspector Nandkishor Bhosale Patil said Jakru lured the boy by offering to take him out to eat vada pav.

Taking the boy to Shikrapur in an autorickshaw, Jakru allegedly confined him to a small room at a farm there.

Laying a trap
The abduction took place on Monday around 3.30 pm, when Ajay was playing near his residence in Hinjewadigaon. A missing complaint was lodged at the Hinjewadi police station.

After the boy's father received a ransom call from the abductor, he told the police about it and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Dnyaneshwar Chavan, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vishnupant Mane and Senior Inspector G S Madgulkar came up with a plan to rescue the boy.

"We traced the location of the caller to Shikrapur," said Police Inspector Bhosale-Patil. Following the instructions from the police, Mukesh continued dealing with Jakru and called him to the Pune railway station to take the money.

A police team led by Bhosale-Patil and Sub-Inspector Dhananjay Jagdale were waiting to trap Jakru there and nabbed him yesterday afternoon.

"During initial interrogation, Jakru has revealed that he worked as labourer with Verma, which is why
Ajay knew him and didn't say no to Jakru," said Bhosale-Patil.

Enmity ruled out
The police ruled out the possibility of enmity between the contractor and the labourer and said Ajay was abducted for money.
