Acting swiftly, a team of cops raided the hotel where Umesh Kumar was detained; arrested the captors, who were his friends-turned-foes

Borrowing money from a rowdy friend proved costly for Umesh Kumar (26), a dance teacher, who was kidnapped over an ensuing financial row on Saturday.

Flashback
Umesh had borrowed Rs 1.5 lakh from Shivu to start his dance school. Soon after lending the amount, Shivu was sentenced to jail in a murder case.

When he was still in jail, Umesh allegedly returned around Rs 70,000 to Shivu's girlfriend Manjula.
But when Shivu came out on bail, he demanded full payment and warned Umesh of dire consequences if he failed to oblige.

"When Umesh did not pay any heed to his warnings, Shivu and his associates kidnapped Umesh and held him captive in Moti Mahal hotel near Gandhi Nagar. The captors then forced Umesh to call his brother Santosh and ask him to arrange for the money," said HS Revanna, DCP, North Bangalore.

Santosh informedu00a0 the cops as soon as he got the call. The Upparpet police and Rajgopal Nagar police swung into action and raided Moti Mahal hotel. Cops rescued Umesh and nabbed Shivu's associates, Vinod and Mahesh.

But to avoid arrest, the duo attempted suicide by slashing their wrist.

Drama
However the police overpowered them and took them to hospital for first aid. They later nabbed Shivu from his house and the trio was booked for kidnap and attempt-to-murder.

The police are interrogating Shivu to ascertain his involvement in other crimes.
