As Harish didn't have a place to stay, Anand offered him accommodation in his house. Anand also helped him find a job that Harish quit within a month.
But as Anand couldn't oblige, he decided to steal the Toyota Innova car that Anand used to drive. Harish took the impression of the key on soap and got a duplicate key made.
On March 3, he told Anand that he would be leaving the city for a few days and fled with the car.
When Anand couldn't find his car, he lodged a complaint with Ulsoorgate police station. However, Anand who didn't suspect a thing, asked Harish to help him find it.
Though Harish pretended to be helping him, he, began plying the car on rent between Bangalore and Tirupati, on the sly.
Whenever Anand called him, Harish would be at different locations.
One such day, when Anand called him, Harish said that he was in the city but couldn't provide satisfactory answers to his further questions. His suspicion aroused, Anand informed the police.
Acting on the complaint, the cops arrested Harish from the city.
C S Anand, police inspector, Ulsoorgate police station, said, "We recovered the car and some cash from the accused. We are interrogating him for more details."
