Conman overpays vendors, befriends fellow passengers on train, only to drug them and make away with their valuables
Sabeena Banu, a resident of Chembur, lost gold valuables worth Rs 1.5 lakh to the conman while travelling on the Bangalore-bound Udyan express from Mumbai.
According to her, she boarded the train on August 6u00a0 along with her relatives, Nargees and Riyaz to visit her relatives in Bangalore. A decently dressed fellow passenger introduced himself to them as Suresh, a businessman from Bangalore. He made an impression on them after he spent money lavishly on snacks and heavily tipped the vendors. He behaved in a very friendly manner, and insisted that Sabeena and the others share the snacks with him.
When the train stopped on the way, Suresh bought softdrinks and offered it to all of them. Sabeena and the others reluctantly accepted, and fell unconscious soon after, waking up in Victoria hospital two days later.
She told the railway police that that all her valuables, including jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh that she was wearing, were missing. The Railway police are investigating the case, based on the description provided by Sabeena.
