Nationalist Congress Party's newly elected Member of Parliament Padmasinh Patil will spend the next seven days in the CBI's custody. Patil was produced in a Panvel court today in connection with the 2006 murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar.

Speaking to the media, Patil said, "I am innocent and have been framed".

Shortly after his arrest, Patil had complained of chest pain and was admitted to JJ Hospital. His advocate said, "Patil is not keeping well and undergoing heart ailment treatment in Bombay Hospital. We had asked the court to allow him continue his treatment in Bombay Hospital. The court has agreed to it".

Maharashtra's former home minister was picked up in Mumbai in connection with the murder of his cousin, Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar, who was gunned down in Kalamboli near the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in 2006.

The arrest comes a week after Patil's name surfaced in a statement of another accused, Parasmal Jain. In his statement to the police, Jain said that he was given a 'supari', an assignment for the killing by Dombivli corporator Mohan Shukla. Shukla claimed the equation between Patil and Nimbalkar had been deteriorating.

Soon after Nimbalkar's murder, fingers had been pointed at Patil, but he had then denied the allegations. Another accused has also named Patil in his narco-analysis test.

Unhappy with the investigation, Nimbalkar's wife moved the Bombay High Court and had the case transferred to the CBI in 2008.

Patilu00a0was arrested last night and has been booked under sec 302 and 120B IPC. Patil is the sitting MP from Osmanabad.
