Reacting to the recognition, Sujata said she felt honoured that her journey in fish farming had reached the national stage. “I am very happy and grateful to the Prime Minister for mentioning my name. It is a matter of great pride for my family and me. His words have motivated me to work even harder,” she said. He also shared Sujata’s inspiring journey, noting how she transformed her efforts into a successful enterprise within a few years despite multiple challenges, reported IANS. Sujata Bhuyan’s journey from struggles to fish farming success According to IANS, Sujata, a resident of LIC Colony in Mudipada area of Sambalpur, began her venture in 2022 after visiting the Hirakud Reservoir, where she first observed fish farming activities. Inspired, she approached the Fisheries Department, underwent training, and started her business with the help of a bank loan. Recalling the initial days, she said the challenges were many. “In the beginning, it was very difficult. Managing household responsibilities along with travelling regularly to the reservoir was not easy. There were also issues like weather changes and arranging feed for the fish,” she said. Despite the hurdles, Sujata said she remained determined to succeed and gradually gained confidence as her work started showing results. “With time, things improved. I learned from my experiences, and with support from the Fisheries Department, I was able to expand my work,” she added, reported IANS. According to reports, Sujata earned around Rs 6 lakh in her first year of operation and has since emerged as an inspiration for many women. She has also gained recognition for supplying fish to markets outside the state. Sujata Bhuyan produces 30 tonnes of fish, inspires women with success story According to IANS, Sujata produces around 25 to 30 tonnes of fish annually through cage culture and supplies to markets in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. She said achieving financial independence and contributing to her family’s income has been one of her biggest satisfactions. She credited government support, including training and financial assistance, for her success. “Without the support of the Fisheries Department and access to loans, it would have been very difficult to start and sustain this work,” she said. Highlighting her journey, the Prime Minister had noted that despite being a homemaker, Sujata showed unwavering determination and turned challenges into opportunities. He said her success has become a ray of hope and inspiration for women in her community, by IANS. Encouraging other women, Sujata said that with determination and the right support, they too can explore opportunities in fisheries and become self-reliant. “If I can do it, others can too. Women should come forward and take advantage of such opportunities,” she said. She added that the Prime Minister’s appreciation has further strengthened her resolve to expand her business and continue contributing to her family’s income and the fisheries sector, reported IANS. No Lockdowns, no rationing - India stays steady amid world energy crisis

How does it feel to sit steady while everything around you seems to be on fire? It is an unsettling image, but it aptly captures India's position in today's world.  At a time when much of the globe is grappling with the cascading effects of a conflict-triggered energy crisis, India appears relatively stable. The ongoing tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran have sent shockwaves through global energy markets. Countries across continents are scrambling to respond to sudden shortages and rising prices of oil and gas -- a situation few would have imagined before February 28 happened. The Gulf region, long considered the epicentre of global energy supply, is itself under strain. As disruptions ripple outward, governments worldwide are being forced into emergency measures. And in the middle of this turbulence, India finds itself in a comparatively comfortable position. For a country of 140 crore people, the availability of petrol, diesel and piped natural gas (PNG) remains largely stable. There are concerns around LPG in some pockets, but much of it appears driven by panic buying and hoarding rather than any systemic shortage. The situation gives a sense of pride and places India high up. During the Covid-19 pandemic, when many powerful nations turned inward, shutting borders and guarding resources, India stepped up -- both domestically and globally. Through the Vaccine Maitri initiative, it extended support to nearly 100 countries, reinforcing its role as a dependable partner in times of crisis. Today's situation, though different in nature, once again highlights contrasts across countries. Several governments have had to take harsh measures that directly affect daily life.  Pakistan has sharply increased fuel prices, introduced work-from-home measures and shut educational institutions. Sri Lanka has cut down public lighting, reduced air-conditioning use in state offices and adopted a four-day work-from-home model. Bangladesh has enforced fuel rationing and closed universities. Vietnam has also moved to remote working. The Philippines has declared a national energy emergency. Even developed economies are not immune. Australia is witnessing fuel shortages, with hundreds of service stations running dry, exacerbated by panic buying. Price increases and demand spikes are becoming common across markets. Against this backdrop, India's position stands out. There has been no hike in petrol, diesel, or gas prices so far. Supplies remain available, and the government has maintained that the country has adequate reserves -- reportedly enough for over two months -- along with measures to boost domestic production and encourage alternatives such as PNG. For ordinary Indians, this translates into a degree of normalcy that is increasingly rare elsewhere. Vehicles continue to run; fuel is accessible, and daily life remains largely unaffected. In contrast, even in the US, rising fuel prices have pushed up the overall cost of living, contributing to inflationary pressures. Amid this, the political discourse at home has been far from measured. Criticism is an essential part of democracy, but there is a thin line between questioning the government and fuelling unnecessary anxiety. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised concerns about a possible lockdown a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled virtual meeting with the chief ministers to discuss the fuel situation amid the ongoing West Asia conflict on March 27. Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi warned of "compromised" energy security, attributing it to foreign policy failures. Akhilesh Yadav spoke of widespread LPG shortages. These are serious claims, but they sit uneasily with the ground reality. When the crisis itself is global and largely beyond the control of any single government, the focus perhaps should be on constructive suggestions rather than amplifying fears. The political heat may continue to rise, but on the ground, the picture remains steady. Roads are busy, fuel stations are functioning, pipelines are supplying gas, and households are managing their needs. India has not stopped. The country is witnessing hectic political activity revolving around Assembly elections in four states and one union territory, and the inauguration of premier development projects, such as the Noida International Airport; the enthralling IPL tournament has also begun, international half-marathons are also being held in some states, and Dhurandhar continues to make a dream run. For once, in a world under strain, India stands on relatively steady ground. The road ahead may not be without challenges if the Gulf conflict escalates, but this is hardly the time to panic. A measured response -- and some trust in the government's handling -- will serve better than alarmism. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Over 55 lakh LPG refills delivered, supply normal: Govt

The supply of domestic LPG cylinders is normal in the country, with more than 55 lakh refills delivered on Saturday, while another 64,000 free trade 5 kg cylinders have also been sold, and no dry-outs have been reported at LPG distributorships, the Ministry of Petroleum said on Sunday.  Online LPG cylinder bookings have increased to 94 per cent on an industry basis, and to prevent diversion at the distributor level, Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) based deliveries have been increased from 53 per cent in February to 84 per cent, the statement said. All refineries are operating at high capacity, with adequate crude inventories in place. The country is also maintaining sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel. Domestic LPG production from refineries has been increased to support domestic consumption. All petrol pumps are operating normally across the country. The government has requested consumers to make LPG bookings online and avoid visiting LPG distributorships. Citizens are also requested to use alternative fuels like PNG and induction/electric cooktops. All citizens are also requested to make necessary efforts to conserve energy in their daily usage. In view of the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, proactive measures are being undertaken to maintain the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG across the country. There were certain rumours which led to panic buying at some retail outlets in a few states, resulting in unusually high sales and heavy crowding. However, it is informed that there are adequate stocks of petrol and diesel available at all petrol pumps in the country. The Government has reiterated its advice to the public not to believe rumours. Raids continue to be carried out in many of the states and UTs to check hoarding and black marketing of LPG. About 2,900 raids have been conducted, and about 1,000 cylinders have been seized on Saturday. Officials of public sector oil marketing companies have conducted surprise inspections at more than 1200 RO and LPG distributorships on Saturday across the country to ensure smooth supplies and to check any hoarding or black marketing. The oil companies have issued about 480 show cause notices to LPG distributorships till date. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Amit Shah targets Congress at a rally, showcases Assam development push

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Congress party during an election rally in Dhekiajuli. He emphasised that the BJP-led governments at both the Centre and in Assam have significantly transformed the state through substantial financial investment, development of infrastructure, and the restoration of peace.  HM Shah claimed that during 10 years of Congress-led rule at the Centre, Assam received around Rs 1.28 lakh crore, whereas under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state got nearly Rs nine lakh crore between 2014 and 2024. “This reflects the Centre’s commitment to Assam’s development,” he said. Highlighting industrial and educational expansion, HM Shah said the Modi government is setting up a semiconductor plant in Assam, while Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is working to establish medical and engineering colleges in every district. The Home Minister also credited the BJP government for bringing peace to the state, alleging that Assam witnessed frequent bomb blasts and violence during Congress rule. “Through multiple peace accords, nearly 10,000 youths have laid down arms, paving the way for stability and growth,” he stated. Taking aim at the opposition, HM Shah accused Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi, of opposing measures to remove illegal infiltrators from voter lists. “They must clarify whether they stand with infiltrators or the people of Assam,” he said. The Home Minister also invoked cultural and historical issues, noting that legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika was conferred the Bharat Ratna only under Modi’s leadership. He further claimed that Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, was denied the honour earlier due to political reasons. Accusing the Congress of neglecting Assam historically, HM Shah said the BJP government today ensures that not “an inch of India’s land” can be encroached upon, asserting a strong national security stance. "Jawaharlal Nehru had said 'Tata bye-bye' to Assam during the time of the China war. This is the Modi government today; no one can snatch even an inch of India's land," he said. One killed, 10 injured as mini-bus strikes motorists in Eastern Afghanistan

One commuter was killed, and 10 others sustained injuries as a mini-bus struck two motorists in east Afghanistan's Laghman province, said a statement of the provincial police office on Sunday, reported IANS. A mini-bus, according to the statement, struck a three-wheel rickshaw and a motorbike simultaneously due to carelessness in the provincial capital Mehtarlam on Saturday afternoon, killing one on the spot and injuring 10 others, including five children and two women, Xinhua News Agency reported.  All the injured commuters have been shifted to the hospital for medical treatment, the statement said, calling on drivers to respect traffic rules and regulations while driving to avoid road accidents.  On March 1, at least three people were killed and six others injured in a highway accident in northern Afghanistan's Jawzjan province, the provincial police office said in a statement, reported IANS. Reckless driving crash kills three, injures six in Afghanistan According to IANS, the incident occurred when two high-speed vehicles collided due to reckless driving in the Hadbakhshi region along the Jawzjan-Sari Pul highway, killing both drivers and a female passenger on the spot and injuring six others, including two children, the statement added.  The injured were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the statement, which also urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules strictly to prevent further tragedies. Deadly road accidents remain a persistent problem in war-torn Afghanistan, often attributed to deteriorating road conditions, reckless driving, and inadequate safety measures amid the country's challenging terrain and limited infrastructure. Earlier on January 31, the provincial police office said that three commuters were killed and two others sustained injuries in a road accident in northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province, reported IANS. The fatal incident occurred when two speeding vehicles collided in the Qala-e-Baday region of Dushi district, killing three passengers, including a woman and a child, on the spot and injuring two others, according to the statement. This follows another deadly crash in northern Badakhshan province on January 29, in which two people died, and one was injured after a vehicle veered off a mountainous road and plunged into a ravine, reported IANS. Three soldiers injured in fratricidal firing at Kupwara army camp in J-K

Three soldiers have reportedly been injured in a fratricidal firing incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, official sources said on Sunday.  As reported by news agency IANS, the incident occurred at an army camp in the Trehgam area of Kupwara when a soldier allegedly opened fire on his colleagues last night. Officials further said that three soldiers were injured in the incident before the erring soldier was overpowered, as per IANS. They further added that the injured soldiers are undergoing treatment at a local military hospital.  Further details of the incident are awaited. Whereas there has been no official word from the army on the incident so far.  Fratricidal incidents remain a concern among troops Fratricidal firing incidents have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir among security forces in the past, also. These incidents generally stem from a combination of severe, prolonged psychological stress, operational fatigue, and personal issues exacerbated by a high-conflict environment. These incidents, along with suicides, have been a concern, with studies attributing them to high stress and combat fatigue.  As soldiers are deployed in constant counter-insurgency operations, leading to prolonged exposure to life-threatening situations, this constant, perpetual threat induces significant psychological pressure. Reasons for such disputes Long duty hours and separation from families, combined with isolation in high-altitude areas, also contribute to loneliness and mental health issues.  Then, disputes over the denial of leave, or the perceived harsh treatment by superiors (humiliation/harassment), have been cited as significant triggers for frustration. Unresolved family matters also play a part. Modern connectivity (cell phones/social media) can be a double-edged sword, causing soldiers to be constantly updated on family disputes (land, financial, or marital) without being able to intervene, increasing feelings of guilt and helplessness. Experts hint at mental issues among soldiers Experts also note that pre-existing mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, and alcohol addiction, are common in a large percentage of such cases. Issues such as poor living conditions, lack of recreational facilities, and inadequate command structures are also considered contributing factors, reported IANS.  Fratricidal cases have continued to occur in recent years, including incidents in the Rajouri and Kupwara sectors, prompting the army to launch studies into the mental health of personnel and initiate measures to mitigate these issues, such as improved training, stress management workshops, and increased opportunities for leave. Modi urges unity, warns opposition against politicising West Asia crisis. File PIC

Modi’s veiled swipe in Mann Ki Baat sparks Opposition responses

In his latest Mann Ki Baat address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the ongoing conflict in West Asia, calling it a “challenging” time for India and the world. Prime Minister delivered a strong but indirect message to opposition parties while speaking in the 132nd episode of Mann Ki Baat,. Without naming anyone, he cautioned against politicising the crisis and said such behaviour harms national interest. “There is no place for self-serving politics,” Modi said, in what was widely seen as a veiled attack on critics questioning the government’s handling of the situation. He also warned against the spread of rumours, urging citizens to rely only on official information. He also highlighted that millions of Indians live in Gulf countries and thanked those nations for supporting Indian citizens during the crisis. Addressing concerns over fuel supply, Modi reassured the public that India is handling the global energy situation and continues to receive supplies of petrol, diesel, and gas. Indirect message to opposition Without naming specific parties, the Prime Minister’s remarks were seen as a response to opposition criticism. He stressed that the situation requires collective effort rather than political blame. BJP leader Tarun Chugh echoed this sentiment, targeting the Congress party and specifically Rahul Gandhi, he alleged that a climate of fear is being intentionally created in the country. Chugh claimed that efforts are underway to mislead the public by spreading "artificial fear," and alleged that a conspiracy to weaken India is being orchestrated with the backing of foreign powers as reported the ANI. Opposition hits back The opposition, however, strongly criticised the Prime Minister’s remarks. Referring to the 132nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Gulf nations for supporting Indians living there and said India is dealing with the global fuel crisis firmly, Congress MP KC Venugopal dismissed the Mann Ki Baat address as ineffective, saying,  "This Mann Ki Baat will not solve the issues. He has to act. But the Government of India's inaction is the main reason for all this crisis for Indians," as reported by ANI. Venugopal accused the government of failing to support Indians living in Gulf countries who are facing difficulties due to the ongoing conflict. He claimed that the Centre has not taken adequate steps to address their concerns. He also pointed to rising fuel prices and an alleged LPG crisis, saying both the central and state governments have not done enough to ease the burden on citizens. Rising political tensions The exchange highlights growing political tensions over how the government is handling the West Asia crisis. With the government accusing the opposition of irresponsible criticism, the opposition continues accusing the government of inaction. As the West Asia conflict continues to affect global energy supplies and Indian citizens overseas, the political battle over responsibility and response is expected to intensify.  (With ANI inputs)
