Over 80 city artists to meet on Wednesday to participate in a silent protest against use of non-biodegradable plastic, and to submit a memorandum to the mayor

The city's art fraternity is all set to add vigor and colour to the ongoing no plastic campaign.

Leading directors, singers and actors from the Kannada film industry will do their bit for the cause in the corridors of Sir Puttana Chetty Townhall on Wednesday.

While renowned director T S Nagabharana and actor Malavika Avinash will anchor the silent awareness drive, urging Bangaloreans to give up plastic, other artists will urge the mayor to ban non-biodegradable plastic in city.

"It's the need of the hour, as we are headed in the wrong direction," said TS Nagabharana. "I think it's the duty of every conscious citizen to work in this regard, and this is my first step in the direction."

The campaign slated to take off on May 26 will be unique as the artists plan to convey their message through silence.

Cine stars Sharmila Mandre, Malavika Avinash and Chaya Singh, singers Praveen D Rao, Supriya and Pallavi will join 12 NGOs in the drive against the use of plastic.

"Almost all NGOs working in this regard will come together for the first time," said MS Prasad, executive trustee, Prakruti, the NGO, behind the initiative.

"Artists from the small screen and film industry, will also strengthen the effort. We plan to submit a memorandum to the mayor to get the harmful plastic banned," said Prasad.
