Khar's latest takeaway joint knows its pizzas and shawarmas, but then so do most others

A balmy day ought to have some fast food relief, but probably within home, or in our case, the office.

Best bet: a takeaway joint. We don't quite fall in love at first sight with Hybrid the two week-old food pick-up station in Khar.

It's about the size of a tiny, really tiny juice stall. And there's room for just one person. So, sitting around while your order is being prepared? Forget it.

Don Dog and Meat Craver's Pizza.

What we do like so far is the menu: it isn't wafer thin, the kinds that get stuffed in your newspaper and tear easy, and it features the new rupee symbol.

Nice. But it isn't a very extensive menu, it only skims through pizzas, shawarmas and hot dogs. Less choice. Ideal for confused diners. We go for two veggie and two non-veg items.

We start off with the Cottage Cheese Shawarma (Rs 75), a pale milky white roll. Generously stuffed with cubes of paneer mixed up in garlic sauce, and a crunchy salad of onions, beetroots, it's a wholesome roll, meant to be devoured in quick bites.

A hurried hunger fix. Next up is a veggie pizza, the very exciting sounding Doppia Formaggio (Rs 145). The menu proudly announces that it's a specially crafted cheese, but we don't really get it.

The crust is perfectly thin but the layer of cheese could have been thicker (it is a cheese pizza!), and honestly, we can't figure out what's so special about the way it's been crafted.

Moving on to the non-veg section, we attack the Meat Cravers (Rs 225) pizza. Again, an ambitious name that the dish fails to live up to. Barbeque chicken and spicy chicken don't a meat craver's pizza make.

What this pizza needs is a lot more chicken, a lot more variety. This one actually has us craving for one of the boxed pizza brands.

There's nothing wrong with how the Meat Craver's Pizza tastes, the meat is perfectly succulent, well-spiced, the cheese's saltiness makes your mouth water and all that, but. Nothing out of the world.

You can't really go very wrong with a hot dog, and Hybrid doesn't, with its Don Dog (Rs 55).

Stuffed with a yummy chicken sausage fighting for space with peppers, garlic and onions, and topped with mayo, the Don Dog's the winner here. It's an easy, staid choice but perfectly wholesome.

Bottomline? There isn't anything really wrong with Hybrid's food. The items are fresh, tasty, with all the right flavours. But then so are a dozen other eateries in the suburbs. How about something really 'hybrid'?u00a0u00a0
