Sexagenarian tries to protect her two-year-old grandson, both die

Sixty-one-year-old Surender Kaur and her grandson died of suffocation when a fire broke out at their Karol

Bagh home on Tuesday afternoon. The elderly woman had tried valiantly to save the young boy, Arman, but her efforts went in vain.

They were rescued by the neighbours and rushed to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for medical treatment," said a police officer, adding the woman and the baby were declared brought dead by the doctors.

The police said that the fire broke out due to short circuit. According to a fire official, the incident was reported around 2 pm from 2583/5, Beadonpura in Karol Bagh. Two fire tenders worked for about half an hour to douse the flames.
