Incident near Connaught Place; police lodge case of harassment
Connaught Place is one of the most secure locations in the Capital, arguably in the country. It's here, on Kasturba Gandhi Marg, that young Deepika Sharma (name changed on request) was allegedly attacked on Sunday night by a stalker who even tried to kidnap her.

After the incident Delhi police deployed four constables outside the house of the aspiring fashion designer. But instead of lodging a case of attempt to kidnap, police filed a case of harassment. The accused also lives at Kasturba Gandhi Marg. But police are yet to take any action against him.
The victim lives in Harish Chander Mathur lane at Kasturba Gandhi Marg and pursuing a course in fashion designing from a reputed institute of south Delhi. Her brothers are working abroad in Europe. Speaking with this reporter, Deepika said that, Ajit Kumar, the accused, had been stalking and proposing marriage to her for past one year and she had complained of eve-teasing to the police but no FIR was lodged.
On Sunday night she was standing outside her house when Ajit arrived there in a car and asked her to sit beside him. When she resisted and raised an alarm, she was allegedly attacked by the culprit.
"He stopped car outside my house and asked me to come for a ride. I ignored. He then got off the car and attacked me. He tried to drag me inside the car using abusive language. I shouted, hearing which my mother rushed to my rescue and he had to set me free. He then left the place threatening that he will kidnap me," said the victim.
Deepika then made a call on PCR. Amardeep Sehgal, SHO Barakhamba arrived along with a few cops to take her statement and left soon after.
Next day, four cops were deployed outside the victim's house and she was told by police that a case had been registered. But when Deepika get the FIR's copy she was taken aback, because police did not include the kidnapping section. A senior police officer said that the case had been filed on the basis of the statement given by the victim.
"It was not an attempt to kidnap case. She said that the accused came in a car and passed lewd comments about her and threatened her. We are yet to approach the culprit," he said.
"The accused paid me a visit again after the incident and in the presence of cops. He again threatened to kidnap me and said that the four cops couldn't protect me from his clutches and fled in his car," said the victim.
