The Ramanagaram party had booze and music, neither of which is banned, so the cops booked the revellers for 'obscenity'. What constitutes a rave?
Police said today what they had busted late last night was just a loud party, not a rave.
Sunday being a holiday for courts, police took the revellers to the magistrate's house. He sent them to judicial custody for the night. They spent the night at Parappana Agrahara jail.
Ramanagaram police said they had seized liquor and musical instruments, but did not mention hard drugs.
It is not illegal to drink or to play musical instruments. The police and some in the media had been describing the party as a rave, but later last night, when MiD DAY asked the police if they had found hard drugs, they said they hadn't.
A rave is defined as an all-night party with dancing and electronically synthesised music, and many associate it with psychedelic drugs.
Padma Thota is located near big banyan tree at Taverekere, off Mysore road. Police arrested three men, said to be the hosts, after residents in the vicinity complained.
