A Delhi-bound Air India Express flight (AIX 1200) was cancelled on Sunday evening due to a technical fault, sparking confusion and frustration among passengers at Birsa Munda Airport in Jharkhand's Ranchi, reported the PTI.

According to airport director RR Maurya, the issue was detected during a pre-flight inspection on Sunday.

"The AIX (Air India Express) 1200 from Ranchi to Delhi has been cancelled due to a technical issue. While checking the aircraft before takeoff, the technical snag was detected," Airport director RR Maurya told PTI.

The flight was scheduled for 6 pm on July 20, and some passengers had already boarded by 5:20 pm, only to be asked to deboard almost two hours later, without immediate explanation.

Passengers were seen arguing with the airline's staff about rescheduling.

Faiz Anwar, a 39-year-old passenger, said, “We were inside the aircraft until around 7 PM when we were suddenly told to deboard. There was no clear communication. I have a crucial meeting in Delhi on Monday, but they’re refusing to reschedule me,” according to the PTI.

He also mentioned that several passengers had connecting international flights to the UK, US, and South Africa, and felt ignored by the airline staff.

“There is complete mismanagement and chaos,” he claimed.

Maurya stated that while some passengers were accommodated on alternate flights, others had their tickets cancelled or were rescheduled for Monday.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, around 30 metres of the airport's southern boundary wall collapsed amid ongoing heavy rain. The airport authority confirmed the breach in a statement, assuring that no operations were affected and security was not compromised, reported the PTI.

Additional CISF personnel have been deployed to strengthen perimeter security, and the affected section of the wall has been barricaded as a precautionary step, the release said, as per the PTI.

"We have already initiated necessary actions to restore the boundary. Importantly, there has been no impact on airport operations, and all services continue to function smoothly. The safety and security of our passengers and facilities remain our highest priority," it added, the news agency reported.

Despite the technical glitch and infrastructure concerns, other airport services continued without disruption, officials confirmed.
