Man sets wife on fire for questioning his association with female friend

In another incident in Maharashtra, a 25-year-old woman in Latur district is in critical condition after being allegedly set on fire by her husband for confronting him about meeting another woman, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred on July 24 following a heated argument. According to police, the husband, with the help of his female friend, allegedly poured petrol on the woman and set her ablaze, according to the news agency PTI.

According to officials, the victim suffered 70 per cent burn injuries and remains in critical condition. She is currently undergoing treatment.

She has also named her mother-in-law and brother-in-law as accomplices in the crime, police further added, according to the news agency PTI.

"She claimed the mother-in-law and the brother-in-law locked her inside a room in the house after her husband set her on fire," he said, quoting the statement of the victim, reported news agency PTI.

Police in Renapur have registered a case against the husband, his female friend, the mother-in-law, and the brother-in-law. Despite the gravity of the case, no arrests have been made yet. Police say further investigation is underway.
