The Gadchiroli Police in Maharashtra on Sunday said that it has launched a new help centre in a remote and Maoist-affected area, to aid the locals.

The police said that the help centre has been inaugurated at Phulnar (Camp Gundurvahi) under the Bhamragad subdivision to strengthen security and support local development in the remote region of Gadchiroli district.

According to the police, the centre was established in just 24 hours with the help of 1,000 C–60 commandos, 21 BDDS team members, newly recruited police officers, 500 special police personnel, and private contractors. Officials and local residents attended the inauguration, including Dr. Chering Dorje, Additional Director General of Police (Special Operations), CRPF Deputy Inspector General Ajay Kumar Sharma, Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Neelotpal, and CEO of Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad Suhas Gade.

The centre is the eighth new police help centre established since 2023 in this Maoist-sensitive and extremely remote area, and aims to enhance safety, facilitate citizen development, and curb Maoist activities. Situated 20 km from Bhamragad and just 7 km from the Chhattisgarh border, the centre is expected to significantly improve security and help integrate local communities into the mainstream of development, it said.

The help centre is equipped with Wi-Fi, 12 porta cabins, a generator shed, RO drinking water plant, mobile tower, toilet facilities, security walls, and barricades. To ensure safety, Gadchiroli police deployed 3 officers, 50 personnel, CRPF 37 battalion, SRPF Group 14, and 200 commandos from special teams, along with logistical support including JCBs, trailers, pokelens, and trucks, the police said.

During the inauguration, a public awareness event was held, distributing essential items to residents including clothing, blankets, kitchen sets, school supplies, sports equipment, and other household goods.

The new centre will also support ongoing mobile tower construction, future road development, and expansion of ST bus services in the area. Local residents expressed gratitude and satisfaction towards the police administration, police officials said.
