The General Secretary of the All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB), Maulana Yasoob Abbas, on Saturday has condemned the US-Israel attack on Iran and warned that it would lead to regional unrest.

In a statement, Abbas said that the sacred month of Ramadan was ongoing and people in Iran observe fasting. The attack during the holy month should have been avoided.

He described the military action as “condemnable” and said it should not have taken place during a holy period observed by millions of Muslims around the world.

Abbas stated that Iran is capable of defending itself and may respond to the attack. He warned that any further military escalation could lead to serious consequences for the wider region.

He said that actions like this increase tensions and make peace efforts more difficult. According to him, such developments could push the Middle East into deeper instability.

Concern over regional peace

The Shia leader expressed concern that the attack would disturb peace and security in the region. He called for restraint and urged global powers to avoid steps that may worsen the situation.

He also appealed to the international community to work towards dialogue and peaceful solutions rather than military confrontation.

Call for calm

Abbas emphasised the importance of respecting religious sentiments, especially during Ramadan. He said conflicts during sacred times hurt the feelings of believers and increase anger among communities.

He concluded by urging all sides to act responsibly and prioritise peace over conflict.

Iran condemns attack

Following the attack, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday condemned what it described as military aggression by the United States and Israel.

In an official statement addressed to the Iranian people, the ministry said that several locations across Iran, including defence infrastructure and civilian sites, were targeted in aerial attacks. The statement claimed the strikes violated Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

Timing during religious and cultural observances

According to the statement, the attacks took place on the eve of Nowruz and during the holy month of Ramadan. Officials described the timing as particularly significant, saying it occurred during an important spiritual and cultural period for the country.

The ministry referred to Iran as a “civilisation-building nation” and said the country had once again been subjected to foreign aggression.

Diplomatic efforts

The statement said the alleged attacks occurred while Iran and the United States were engaged in a diplomatic process. Iranian officials claimed they had entered negotiations to demonstrate their commitment to peace and to show the international community that any justification for military action would be illegitimate.

The ministry insisted that Iran had taken all necessary steps to prevent war but would now defend itself.

Iran stated that the attacks amounted to a violation of Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.

The statement also referred to Article 51 of the UN Charter, saying Iran considers it has the lawful right to self-defence.

Tehran called on the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to take immediate action, and urged member states, particularly regional and Islamic countries and members of the Non-Aligned Movement, to condemn the alleged aggression.

Warning of a response

The ministry said the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran would respond “with authority and strength”. It added that Iran would use all available resources to defend its territory.

The statement concluded by saying that the Iranian people have historically resisted foreign domination and would not bow to external pressure. It warned that the response would be decisive and would make the aggressors regret their actions.
