Deadliest quakes to hit Italy
In November 1980, a 6.9 quake killed 2,735 people near Naples.
In May 1976, an earthquake measuring 6.5 hit Friuli, killing 976 people.
In July 1930, 1,400 people died when a tremor measuring 6.5 struck the region of Irpinia.
