Australian tunneling expert Arnold Dix hogged the limelight as 41 trapped workers in the Silkyara tunnel were rescued in Uttarakhand. Commending his exceptional work, the Australian PM on Dec 08 appreciated Arnold Dix in the Australian Parliament. Australian PM Anthony Albanese praised and commended Arnold Dix for his pivotal role in the 17-day-long rescue mission. He also expressed deep admiration for Arnold Dix, who is the president of the International Tunneling and Underground Space Association. The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Nov 03 landed in Israel’s Tel Aviv. Reuters reports that the US’ top diplomat has visited Israel to push for humanitarian pauses in the Gaza war. Israel has said that the Defense Forces have surrounded Gaza and the focus of its drive is to annihilate Hamas. Notably, this is Antony Blinken’s second visit to war-hit Israel in a month. This time, he will discuss steps with PM Netanyahu to minimise harm to civilians in besieged Gaza. As per Reuters, Gaza health authorities say at least 9,061 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its assault. On the other hand, Israel says Hamas killed 1,400 people and took more than 240 hostages in the attacks on Oct 7.

Australian PM Anthony Albanese on October 16 voiced his concern for “peace-loving” Palestinians. He said Palestinians were suffering as a result of Hamas’ violent terror attack on Israel. Hamas’ violent terror attack has spiralled into a military conflict and humanitarian crisis. For the past few days, the Israeli blockade has prevented fuel, food, and water from entering Gaza. Although, Netanyahu had agreed with Biden to resume the water supply to parts of southern Gaza. PM Albanese reiterated Australia’s support of Israel in defending itself against acts of terror. Albanese also strongly condemned antisemitic chants that were heard at pro-Palestine protests outside the Sydney. Thousands of Australians joined pro-Palestinian rallies on October 15, despite police threats to curb them. Israeli forces have extensively attacked the Gaza Strip and military infrastructure as part of their high-scale retaliation. These strikes impacted Hamas by targeting its operational command centers, military compounds, dozens of launchers. Also, Israel has launched a barrage of missile attacks as a counter-offensive attack. Meanwhile, Israeli PM Netanyahu convened a key cabinet meet and vowed to demolish Hamas.

Canada’s accusation of India’s involvement in killing of Khalistani terrorist Nijjar came as a big blow to diplomatic ties between both nations. India and Canada have expelled each other’s Top Diplomats from their respective countries.
