As the interim budget for the financial year 2024-25 was rolled out on February 01, President of the US-India Business Council (USIBC) Atul Keshap lauded US and India governments for their focus on iCET sectors and budget. Atul Keshap said, “First of all, I think this is a very confident, very sober and very pro-growth budget by the government of India, and I think it signals a real sense of optimism about the economic growth of the country. It sends a very strong signal to investors about the constancy of government policy. So I think it's very positive. And I congratulate the Finance Minister, her entire team and the government.” “So it actually details really nicely with iCET (Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology), which is the initiative on critical and emerging technologies that the two governments and the US chamber launched in January of 2023. So first, for instance, there's a $12 billion fund to help develop these so-called sunrise sectors of deep tech and future tech. And there's a lot of money as well on semiconductors. I think the government of India is showing great focus on artificial intelligence, quantum computing and other iCET sectors. I led an aerospace and defence mission last week, or rather this week, to Delhi, and we had really good and encouraging meetings. So I really applaud both the US and Indian governments for their focus on the iCET sectors and this budget. It proves that that focus is backed by real money,” he added.

While addressing the event, Ambassador Garcetti praised the India-US relationship and said there’s never been a stronger US-India moment than right now. “There’s never been a stronger US-India moment than right now...In other words, it’s not the US plus India, it’s really the US times India. You feel this around the country, you feel this in every sector, you feel it in all aspects of this relationship. In fact, in less than a week, we will have the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defence here....”

India-Canada diplomatic relations after Canadian PM Trudeau’s allegation against India have reached an all-time low. Trudeau claimed of having “credible allegations of potential link between agents of India in killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar”. While addressing an event in Delhi, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti spoke up on the Nijjar row. Garcetti said that Canada is a dear friend and United States deeply cares for Canada just as it cares for India. Speaking on India-US relations after Trudeau’s allegation Garcetti said, “These moments don't define our relationship, but they certainly can slow down progress”. Thereafter, speaking on the criminal investigation of Nijjar’s murder case Garcetti said that he is not going to tell leaders of both countries what to do. Earlier today, India issued a travel advisory and urged its citizens in Canada to “exercise utmost caution” for those who contemplating travel. Hardeep Singh Nijjar, for whom Trudeau is raising his voice, was a designated terrorist of Khalistan Tiger Force. Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar was shot dead outside a Gurudwara in Canada’s Surrey in June 2023.

The situation in violence-hit Manipur remains grim as the unrest among local communities continues. The State and the Centre Governments have taken several steps to bring normalcy to the state. Violence gripped Manipur on May 3 after clashes erupted during a rally organised by the All Tribal Student Union. They were protesting against the demand for the inclusion of Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
