Kargil Vijay Diwas: Rajnath Singh, CDS pay tribute to Kargil war heroes

On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at Kargil War Memorial in Ladakh. Tributes were paid to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1999 Kargil War. Army Chief General Manoj Pande laid a wreath at the War Memorial. Other than him, Indian Navy Chief R Hari Kumar also paid homage to the soldiers. Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari paid tribute to the soldiers. Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan also laid wreath at the Kargil War Memorial. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also reached Ladakh to pay homage to the soldiers who lost their lives. Lt Governor of Ladakh, BD Mishra also reached the War Memorial to pay homage to the soldiers. Kargil War was one of the toughest wars fought in the most inhospitable conditions, both due to its geographical and climatic conditions. During the war, the Indian Army recaptured the strategic peaks of Tololing, Tiger Hill, and Point 4875, among others.

Kargil War Memorial gets ready to celebrate 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas

Preparations were underway at Kargil War Memorial in Ladakh on July 25 for the celebrations of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Notably, July 26 is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas every year to observe India’s victory over Pakistan in 1999. This year, India will celebrate 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas. Kargil War was one of the toughest wars fought in the most inhospitable conditions, both due to its geographical and climatic conditions. During the war, the Indian Army recaptured the strategic peaks of Tololing, Tiger Hill, and Point 4875, among others. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place on July 26 giving tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during Kargil War.

Gyanvapi Case: Survey put on halt till July 26, no excavation to be undertaken

A 30-member team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) began a survey on Monday at the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi. They aim to determine if the mosque was built on top of an ancient Hindu temple. However, following an order from a Chief Justice of India-led Supreme Court bench, the survey work was halted for two days. The survey will resume only after 5 pm on Wednesday, the top court directed, adding that no excavation or invasive work would be undertaken by ASI officials on the mosque premises.

2006 Mumbai train bombings anniversary: When Mumbai came to a standstill

On July 11, 2006, a string of powerful bombs ripped through Mumbai's commuter trains system in the evening rush hour, killing nearly 200 people and bringing India's financial capital to a standstill. Seven blasts were triggered in the span of 11 minutes in the first-class suburban train compartments. The first bomb went off shortly after 6.20 pm in the Western Railway suburban train running from Churchgate to Borivali. The bomb exploded when the train was between Khar and Santacruz stations. Another bomb exploded at the same time in a local between Bandra and Khar Road. Most of the commuters in these trains were executives, businessmen, employees of government and private establishments and college students. Five more explosions occurred in Jogeshwari, Mahim Junction, Mira Road-Bhayander, Matunga-Mahim Junction and Borivali.
