For the first time in the history of Independent India, defence exports touched a record Rs 21,083 crore in the financial year 2023-24. India’s defence exports saw a record growth of 32.5 pc over the last fiscal year when the figure was Rs 15,920 crore. The recent figures have indicated that the defence exports have grown by 31 times in the last 10 years. Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi called India’s defence sector growth a “monumental achievement”. The Prime Minister lauded the team’s hard work those who propelled India onto the global stage in defence. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh hailed PM Modi’s visionary leadership and congratulated all stakeholders. The defence industry, including private sector, has made tremendous efforts in achieving the highest-ever defence exports. The private sector and the DPSUs have contributed about 60 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively.

After years of delay, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 has been finally implemented in India. The Union Home Ministry has notified rules for implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on March 11, days ahead of LS Polls 2024. Home Minister Amit Shah, on multiple occasions, said that CAA rules would be notified ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May. Since 2020, MHA has been regularly seeking extensions from Parliamentary committees to continue process of framing rules associated with it. Following the passage of CAA by Parliament in Dec 2019 and its subsequent Presidential assent, significant uproar erupted in various parts of country. Over a hundred individuals lost their lives either during protests or due to police action subsequent to passage of law in Parliament. Talks around taking back the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir have again gained the limelight in India. Political experts speculate that the Modi govt might take some actions soon to take back the PoK. Raghav Chadha of the AAP objected to the Post Office Bill in Lok Sabha on the first day of the Parliament winter session 2023 after 115 days of suspension. He focused on privacy concerns, pointing out the lack of specific protocols for opening and intercepting letters. He described it as an act of citizen spying and a breach of constitutional articles 19 and 21. It is worthy to be noted that Raghav Chadha on December 4 joined the Winter Session after alleged revocation of his suspension. However, sources told ANI that claim made by Raghav Chadha that his Suspension from Rajya Sabha has been revoked by the Privilege Committee is wrong. “There is no revocation of suspension. He has been held guilty by the Committee for both the charges & punished. The Committee said that his suspension for last more than three months (suspended on 11th August) till date is enough punishment and will meet the ends of justice, therefore, he can now attend the proceedings of the House. This correct position be highlighted,” the sources added.
