Former Mumbai skipper and bowling spearhead Ajit Agarkar, who was made Mumbai's new chief senior selector yesterday, wants to pick players who can serve Mumbai cricket for the next 10 years.

"Hopefully, we will select players who will play for India, but at the same time, our job is to tap some guys who can serve Mumbai for the next five to 10 years," Agarkar told mid-day yesterday.

'Rege did well'
Agarkar, who replaced Milind Rege, lavished praise on his predecessor. "He (Rege) was the guy who picked me for Tatas. I am not replacing him, I have been asked to be a chief selector. He served Mumbai cricket well for so many years. He has done such a good job over the years. Hopefully, I can do the same," said the 39-year-old former India all-rounder.

More changes?
Agarkar claimed 299 first-class wickets apart from his 288 in ODIs and 58 Test victims. Agarkar hinted at changes in the support staff. "It's not about whether someone is better or not. Freshness is important - not only in team - but in support staff and coaches too. Things should not stagnate and that is our primary aim," he added.
