The Senior Men’s Selection Committee is set to convene at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai on Tuesday to finalise India’s squad for the upcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025.

Following the selection meeting, a press conference will be held at 1:30 PM, featuring India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar.

Key contenders in focus

Top-order batters Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma are reportedly front-runners for the top three slots in the batting lineup, with skipper Suryakumar expected to slot in at number four.

There is growing speculation that Shubman Gill, India’s current Test captain, may be appointed vice-captain for the Asia Cup campaign, following his impressive leadership during the recent tour of England.

A strong pool of contenders including Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, and Washington Sundar are also in contention for selection. Jitesh Sharma is likely to be named as the backup wicketkeeper, while Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to serve as a reserve opener.

Bowling line-up taking shape

In a significant boost for India, pace ace Jasprit Bumrah has declared himself fit and available for the tournament. He is expected to spearhead the pace attack, with Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana likely to join the fast-bowling unit. The spin department could see the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, and Ravi Bishnoi, providing a blend of wrist-spin and mystery options.

The ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 will be held from September 9 to 28, across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The tournament, to be played in the T20I format, will feature eight teams: the five full members of the Asian Cricket Council, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, as well as UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong.

Teams are divided into two groups:

  • Group A: India, Pakistan, UAE, Oman
  • Group B: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Hong Kong
