Apple’s iPhone 17 launch is expected to boost shipments in India by 25 perc in 2025, reaching 14–15 million units. Driven by festive demand, discounts on older models, and Pro model upgrades, Apple is eyeing an 8 perc market share. With new retail stores and local manufacturing, India is set to become central to Apple’s global growth.

The day after US tech giant Apple launched the latest iPhone 17 series, reports suggest that shipments in India are projected to grow by up to 25 per cent. The projection, as per the industry, will reach a record of around 14-15 million units in 2025, as per the news agency IANS.
IANS also reported that the surge in shipments is driven by heavy discounts on older models and strategic pricing of the newly launched iPhone 17 series.
In a very surprising scenario, research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) India expects dispatches to reach around 15 million units in 2025, up from 12 million in 2024. On the other hand, Canalys projects 14.20 million, and Counterpoint Research estimates 18-19 per cent growth. Targeting an 8 per cent market share in the Indian smartphone market can mark a significant incline.
Industry experts noted that “India is one of the fastest-growing global markets for Apple and is expected to remain central to its sales trajectory over the next two years, with festive demand playing a key role,” as cited by news agency IANS.
The newly launched iPhone 17 is priced at Rs. 82,900 (USD 940.54), slightly higher than the iPhone 16. Apple has indicated that the base model offering 128 GB storage has been discontinued in the 17 series, with all new variants now offering 256 GB storage at a lower price compared to the previous generation's Rs. 89,900 (USD 1,019) for the same capacity.
While the research firm Canalys had already forecasted that the company's domestic wholesale revenue would go to Rs. 108,412 crore (USD 12.30 billion) in 2025 from Rs. 98,717 crore (USD 11.20 billion) last year.
Supported by upgrades to Pro models and sales of the new iPhone Air model, the growth of the smartphone market in India is heavily anticipated.
The firm also highlighted that “the rising attach rates of ecosystem products will also boost revenue growth”, as per news agency IANS.
Furthermore, the analysts also noted that the iPhone 16 was India’s highest-selling model in H1 2025, driving 96.50 per cent growth in the premium smartphone segment.
With EMI schemes and expanding flagship retail stores in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune, Apple is expected to broaden its consumer base and strengthen its ecosystem presence in India.
Apart from India, shipments of Apple products are likely to see a sublime inclination. The country is also becoming central to Apple’s manufacturing plans, with one in every five iPhones now being produced in the country.
