For a small-town boy, the nightlife of Mumbai can be mesmerising, so much so that it drives one to stealing.
At least, that's what the police say was the motive for 20-year-old embroidery worker to steal motherboards from the embroidery factory that he worked in.

On Wednesday, the Kasturba Marg police arrested Avinash Shukmangal Sharma alias Pintoo, a resident of Rajendra Nagar in Borivli (East), for robbing the dyes and motherboards of the embroidery designing machines.

Acting on a complaint filed by Ketal Sandga, the owner of Bappa Sitaram Embroidery unit, located at Siddhivinayak industries in Borivli (East), the cops picked up Pintoo and recovered a motherboard and dyes from him worth Rs 1.75 lakh.

Cops say they were able to trace Pintoo with the help of the documents and proof of residence that he had provided to Sandga when he was hired.

According to the police, Pintoo, who migrated from Gorakhpur three years ago, started working as an embroidery designer in the city.

Pintoo told the authorities that he had a roommate that had shown him the city's bars and pubs and very soon he was addicted to the wonders of the city's nightlife.

The investigating officers said that Pintoo used to spend the money on bar girls and alcohol.

However, running short on money, he saw a perfect opportunity in the factories that he was working in.

Modus operandi
"Pintoo knew that the motherboards, which have the designs built in, each costing approximately Rs 1.50 lakh.

He started stealing them and sold them to other companies for a lesser price," said Rajendra Thakur, senior police inspector of Kasturba Marg police station.

The police added that Sharma used to learn the security of the company where he worked and a few days later would break the lock and flee with the machine's motherboard.

"We have arrested Sharma for theft and will produce him in court tomorrow," said Senior Inspector Thakur. "We recovered a motherboard and dyes from him all costing Rs 1.75 lakh," he added.
