They say print is dead, but the website story is not all rosy either. Dissemination of news is easy but mediums keep changing. Leave alone laptop and desktops, humans today are distracted; their attention span is barely two to three minutes on a thought, ongoing cricket match or newspapers. Sports — high on action and drama — keeps everybody on their toes. If your eyes are tired navigating on your phone screen for long, here is a solution — download the app, Sports Flashes.

The brainchild of entrepreneur Raman Raheja from New Delhi, the app covers a wide range of sports and provides stories in less than 70 words. It works on the new age idea of scrolling; new content will flash at every upward stroke of your finger. The app concentrates on trending stories. They have in-house content writers but also supply news stories from key publications. Keeping cricket apart, it envelops football with extreme care — from Premier League to La Liga; the other sports in the app includes motor sports, tennis and golf.

What we liked
The app didn't ignore discipline sports like mixed martial arts and fitness and health tips from wrestler Sushil Kumar. The capability of the app to slice a story (with multiple twists) into one is laudable. The presentation of the friendly banter between former India cricketer Virender Sehwag and British journalist Piers Morgan over Olympic medals perfectly fit the bill.

It is a mix of both serious and light read with a tinge of sensationalism thrown in, courtesy — the gossip section and the sultry photographs of models from Instagram and stories of UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste as a bed-breaker. We also liked that it covers the business and science of sports — for example, updates on Ten Sports being sold to Sony Pictures Network, the training of Indian coaches in University of Birmingham about biomechanics (which boosts performances of athletes) is also available. In these times, the diversity of users, across age groups is vital, and Sports Flashes gets brownie points for getting it right.

What we didn't
A lot of sports viewing depends on visuals, and this is where the app needs a hard look-on. The shape of images isn't up to the mark. They should concentrate on the accurate length, breadth and height while uploading them or make it mobile-optimised. We browsed through gorgeous looking photographs of PV Sindhu in different dress codes but her headspace and arms appear odd and shrunken.

Available: Google Playstore for Android, App Store for iPhones
