But, the memorial will have to wait for some more time. Sources revealed that the BMC is waiting for an auspicious day to inaugurate it. The green memorial took root on February 6 with a bhoomipujan and work began on February 11. The memorial spans across a 20x40-feet patch of land with shrubs and a clay statue of the late supremo. The entire project cost approximately Rs 6 lakh.

Civic officials refused to reveal an inauguration date. “The work is still on as the grass still needs to grow,” said SS Shinde, joint municipal commissioner (garden department). Mayor Sunil Prabhu added, “We want to decorate it with more flowers and plants. We are in no hurry to inaugurate it.” Even as officials remained tightlipped, the employees in charge of maintaining the plot said that it had been completed.
