With only 15 days left for the financial year to come to an end, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) road department is struggling to complete its projects scattered around the city by March 31.

The PMC has a spillover of Rs 70 crore which will be transferred to other departments and will be spent as part of budget for the next financial year.

Lets examine how will these projects benefit you once they are completed:

Concretisation of Range Hills Main Road:
The road is directly linked to old Pune-Mumbai Highway. It will save time to reach the highway.

"We badly needed this road. If the road is completed soon, we can use it for going to Pimpri-Chinchwad for our routine work. The proposed concrete road will help us in using cars in big numbers."

Construction of pavement and other road works in Gokhale Nagar: All the arterial roads at Gokhale Nagar have been lowered by eight inches. It will help to flush out the storm water after heavy rains.

"The PMC and the local corporators are making tall claims but the deadline is 31st March. At many places the roads are being dug up, but there is no progress in the work. This will certainly create inconvenience to the local residents even in summer."
ufffd Narendra Tamboli, Social worker

Construction of pavement and road improvement of Mula Road area: Presently the road has many choking points during rush hours. The new road will broaden the road width and solve the problem of traffic congestion.
"This is a good development, as it will help in reducing the irritating bottlenecks that occur on this road. It will also become easier to catch the PMPML buses that go to the main city."
ufffd Hamsa Iyer, Student

Improvement of roads in Bhakti Marg Damle Road in Kanchan Galli: This is a by lane of Law College Road which links Senapati Bapat road and Karve Road. There are many housing societies and the students are residing in big numbers. They can use the lane more leisurely.
"The PMC is not keeping its word especially on completing roads. The roads at Bhakti Marg are no exception. People should ask the local corporators why they are not keeping their word."
ufffd Sudhir Kulkarni, Social activist

Improvement of Ardesar Irani road at Cantonment: The road links Shivaji Market and Laxmi Road.
"A small work on this patch was being carried out for the past two months. The civic body should understand how much inconvenience the local residents faced in the last 60 days."
ufffd Anand Saraf, Banker
