The wife of local gangster Sharad Mohol, who is the key accused in the murder of Indian Mujahideen operative Qateel Siddiqui, has alleged that her husband was being subjected to mental and physical harassment by Yerawada prison authorities.
While addressing a press conference yesterday at the Patrakar Sangh, Swati Mohol claimed that when she recently went to meet her husband to the jail, the authorities there initially denied her permission, but relented after she persisted.

“I was taken aback after I saw my husband’s condition, as he looked pale and had lost a lot of weight,” she said. She further said that no food was served to Sharad between April 28 and May 3 and he was given only provided water. She added that she had petitioned the state human rights commission, the home department and district sessions judge, seeking intervention in the matter.

When contacted, additional director general of police (prisons) Meeran Borwankar refuted the allegations and said, “This is totally false. We believe in respecting human rights of all prisoners. She has written to me also and I had discussed the issue with the Yerawada jail superintendent,” she added.u00a0
