The plan includes 'nowcasts' - that gives predictions up to six hours - and forecasts for specific venues where a particular event is being held.

The three-tier forecast system involves very short range (nowcasts), short range and medium range predictions. An India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said 'nowcasts' would be available round the clock during the mega sporting event. Doppler Weather Radar and Numerical Weather Prediction Models (NWP), Weather Decision Support System (WDSS), Short-range Warning of Intense Rainstorms in Localised Systems (SWIRLS) and Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS) will be used for nowcasts or the very short range forecasts. These systems are capable of providing forecasts for up to six hours of any severe weather phenomena at a very high spatial resolution. Regular updates of 'nowcasts' will be issued every three hours.

Weather forecasts in the short range scale -- for next three days -- will be provided using a set of high resolution regional NWP model from the IMD, NCMRWF (National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts) and the IAF (Indian Air Force).

These forecasts will be updated twice a day. In the Medium-range Forecast, Global NWP models of IMD and NCMRWF will be operated twice a day for providing the weather forecasts up to next five days for Delhi and its neighbourhood.

A 24-hour control room will be established in the National Weather Forecast Centre in Mausam Bhavan to provide these services to the organisers, government, media and the public through website, email, fax and telephone.

There could be a "15-20 per cent" possibility of rains during the first fortnight of October when Delhi hosts the Commonwealth Games but country's weather office has no plans to prevent showers through cloud seeding or any other method. Though it is not a forecast for this October but only an analysis of the climatological data for the past 110 years, the India Meteorological Department said.

SECURITY NET
The premier paramilitary force, CISF will have its over 14,000 strongmen deployed for the Commonwealth Games. CISF officials said that 5,000 personnel have been specially given to Delhi police for the security of Games venues and other important assignments.
"These 5000 personnel also include 500 commnando personnel of the force," they said. While remaining nine thousand include those who have been working at the airport and Delhi Metro network. 4,600 personnel have been deployed at the airport while 4,500 personnel have been deputed on Delhi Metro network.

HINDI IGNORED
The ruling BJP in MCD claimed on Tuesday that the hoardings and banners for Commonwealth Games put up in various parts of the city have been printed in English alone and dubbed it as an "insult" to Indian culture. Leader of the MCD House Subhash Arya said if Hindi was not given its due respect in a week, Hindi-lovers would be "compelled to add" words in the national language on the blank space in the banners and posters.
Chairman of MCD Standing Committee Yogender Chandolia went to the extent of offering financial help to Commonwealth Games Committee for printing Hindi banners in case it finds itself financially incapable of doing so.
