Active lets you in on three simple ways you can trick your body into getting rid of flab without rigorous exercise

How to lose weight fast and look good naked might sound like the title from a self-help book, but it needn't remain an empty promise. If your jeans have been fitting a little too snugly lately, and they aren't just back from the wash, slipping into spandex tights and pounding away on a treadmill is not the only way to drop the KGs. Here are four sneakier ways to to boost your metabolism and fool your brain into getting you to put that fork down:

Eat from a smaller plate: Eating off a smaller plate, preferably one that's blue, tricks the brain into believing that you are eating a large portion. Studies suggest that blue acts as an appetite suppressant, as the colour rarely occurs naturally in foods and is often indicative of poison or fungus.

Rewire your reward mechanism: Using food as a reward is wired into our psyches right from the time we are handed a "treat" for maxing a spelling quiz. It's important to recognise food for what it is: sustenance. That's not to deny the body of one of the most sensual experiences, but more to suggest looking for alternative "rewards". Cracked a deal at work? Met a demanding deadline? Buy yourself a pretty kurta in a smaller size or a book by a favourite author instead of looking forward to snacking on potato chips or a high-calorie dessert.

Swear off 5 high-calorie treats: Not everyone has the same cravings. So, if you don't binge on cheese, there's no point in denying yourself a corn and cheese kebab because it's fattening. Figure out your binge triggers and swear off them for a while if you find the "occasional" binge becoming more frequent. The idea behind not swearing off all things fatty is to not "punish" yourself so that you're less likely to turn to food to comfort yourself.
