Officials from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) yesterday arrested a marriage officer for taking bribe of Rs 300 from a would-be couple to issue them a marriage notice at marriage registration office at the District Collectorate
The accused was identified as Ramchandra Maruti Parekar (57). u00a0Kothrud resident Dipti Chandrakant Nirmale (24) had lodged the complaint with the ACB. “Nirmale, who is a software engineer with an IT company, had gone to the marriage registration office on July 12 with her fiancé Vijay Joshi.
They filled the marriage registration form and submitted it to Parekar,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACB) Hemant Bhatt said.u00a0Bhatt said that Parekar did not issue the notice on that day and asked her to come on July 16. He also told her to bring along Rs 700.
“When the complainant asked him about the actual fee to issue the notice, Parekar told her that he would not issue a notice until he gets Rs 700,” Bhatt said. He added that the actual fee to issue a marriage notice is just Rs 50.u00a0Nirmale then approached the ACB office and lodged a complaint against Parekar. In the meantime she bargained with Parekar and offered to pay Rs 300.u00a0
