Authorities arrest two passengers at airport for smuggling mobile phone accessories worth Rs 13 lakh

Custom officials at the Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport on Saturday detained two passengers for smuggling in hi-end mobile phone accessories to the tune of Rs 13 lakh. The duo, Shabjada Khan (22) and Mohshin Khan (20) were returning from Dubai in an Air India flight.

An official on the condition of anonymity said, "We got a tip-off from our source about the duo smuggling in cell phone accessories. Once they entered the green channel with their luggage, we caught them."

The duo was reportedly carrying earphones and cell phone batteries and officials suspect that they must have been running this racket for a long time as both fly regularly to Dubai. "During interrogation, they accepted their crime. They will now be produced in a city court soon," the official added. Both have been booked under different sections of Indian Customs Act, including Section 104.

When contacted, Mahendra Pal, the additional commissioner of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Airport Customs, said, "Yes we have intercepted two passengers carrying undeclared mobile accessories. The investigation is still underway."
