Ramya, what's all this drama?

Kannada movie star Ramya, who through all of last month proclaimed that young people should vote, couldn't cast her own vote yesterday: she had forgotten to check whether her name was on the voting list.

Ramya was angry and upset that she didn't find her name on the voters' list in Sadashivanagar, but MiD DAY believes she could be at fault herself.

"I was really excited about this election. I reached the polling station at 11 am. But excitement turned to surprise and then to anger when I was told my name was missing from the voters' list," she fumed over the phone in the morning.

Her mother's name was on the list, and Ramya said she couldn't understand why her name had been left out even though she lived in the same house.

Ramya said she spent close to three hours trying to trace her name.

"I went from one polling booth to another in the vicinity because the officials told me to try my luck everywhere! My name didn't figure in any voters' list. I can't believe how this could happen because I voted in the last elections," she said.

Boys gaping outside, but star in car
Film actress Ramya inspired many young fans to rush to the polling booth though none of them seemed to have voting in mind. They'd come all the way from places like Yelahanka to watch her live at a polling booth in Sadashivanagar where she was to cast her vote. But before they could yelp 'Ramya', she had driven off with her mother who had come to vote.

The poor sods then discovered from the police that Ramya was inside the car for a whole 15 minutes as her mother stood in the queue. Better luck next time, boys!

MiD DAY's questions for Ramya

1. Why didn't you check beforehand whether you were on the voter list? (Anyone can do it at the nearest ward office).
2. Have you got yourself a voter ID card? And did you take it to the polling booth?
3. Don't you live at the West End? How could the census officials imagine you lived in Sadashivanagar?
4. And, uh, better luck next time.
But a word of advice: Get cracking on getting your papers in order.
