Animal activists announced the reward when the dog, suffering from hematoma, escaped after the ambulance carrying him to a hospital met with an accident
There is scarcely anything out of the ordinary in loving your pet. But the compassion and sacrifice involved in tracing a sick stray, which has gone missing after a road accident, isn't a routine occurrence.
Two dog lovers at Save Our Strays, an animal NGO, are going to great lengths to ensure that an ailing dog, which scampered away after the ambulance carrying it to a hospital met with an accident, is returned safely so it can be treated.

They have printed and distributed flyers for the missing dog and announced prize money of Rs 10,000 for the one who finds it.

The NGO's founder Shirley Advani and its secretary Shalina Mamtani have been searching for a stray dog for the last week. The two women work for street dogs in the area between Bandra and Dahisar.
On April 7, when their NGO's ambulance was transporting 10 dogs to the animal hospital in Deonar for sterilising nine and treating one it met with a mishap in Shivaji Nagar.
The impact of the hit opened its back door, and eight dogs ran out. The volunteers managed to catch three, but five escaped.
"Among the five was an old dog which needed immediate treatment. The other four were being taken for sterilisation. When volunteers informed us of the accident, we all went to search for the dogs.
Our combing operation went on until next morning. Our volunteers are still scanning the area, but we haven't been successful in finding the dogs," said Advani.
The old dog, which suffers from hematoma collection of blood outside of a blood vessel a disease that needs to be operated upon as soon as possible, was caught from outside Infinity Mall in Andheri; the others from surrounding areas.
The other problem was that the NGO didn't have any pictures of the dog to print or paste on posters. However, they have printed leaflets (see box) that they distributed in the Chembur-Mankhurd-Deonar area where the dogs escaped.
"We printed the leaflets in two languages, in Hindi on one side and English on the other. We want the message to reach as many people as it can. The leaflet has all the details of the dog," said Mamtani.
The Flyer
The leaflet has the dog's description brown in colour, old and of a big built, with a brown, animal print collar. It reads, "He has a pus infection in the eyes, swelling in the insides of both ears, skin infection on the back near the tail. This dog is unable to see or hear well. If you have any information on such a dog, one can contact Shriley on 9820141310 or Shalina on 9820179766." Two of the other dogs have pink collars, and the remaining two do not have dog tags.
