Husband may have killed her for more dowry

Jayashree (22), a resident of Bilekahalli was found dead on a railway track near Hoodi railway station on the outskirts of the city on Sunday night.

Family members suspect that her husband Naveen may have killed her and dumped her body on the track.

Cantonment police found the body and managed to get her identity.

Based on this, they went to Jayashree's house to make enquiries. Jayashree had been married to Naveen, who was in the auto business, with his own auto too, for four years.u00a0

The couple had two children a boy and a girl. However, the girl baby died within four months of birth, supposedly due to an illness. The couple stayed in a rented house in Bilekahalli along with Naveen's parents.

Another demand

According to Jayashree's parents and brothers, Naveen and his family kept making dowry demands right from the time of marriage. In all,u00a0 the family had given Rs 3 lakh to Naveen's family over a period of four years. This, despite the parents being poor coolies. In fact, ten days before her death, Jayashree had called up her mother and told her that her husband had been harassing her for a gold chain. The coolie parents asked her to hang on and asked for a week's time to fulfill the demand.u00a0u00a0

u00a0 According to the police, the neighbours had heard Naveen and Jayashree fighting on Sunday afternoon around 3 pm. They also heard Naveen beating his wife. When they went to enquire, Naveen reportedly asked them not to interfere, as it was their personal matter.

After a while, there was no more fighting, just total silence.

Accused absconds

When the police went to the house with the news of Jayashree's death, neither the husband nor his parents reacted. They did not even go to see the body which was sent to Bowring Hospital for a post-mortem.

Later on, the accused husband and his parents absconded.

Police said they were safely locked up in the police station. But Jayashree's relatives said that when they went to the station, the accused were nowhere to be seen.
