It was a good day for Indians at the World Table Tennis Championships in Paris yesterday. Mouma Das, K Shamini and Madhurika Patkar entered the main draw of the women's singles event and Soumyajit Ghosh too made it in the men's competition.
Das conquered Rheann Chung of Trinidad and Tobago 4-1 while K Shamini beat Sovenia’s Manca Fajmut 4-2. Madhurika Patkar got the better of Gulchekhra Khusseinova of Kazakhstan but Neha Aggarwal (428) could not beat Monika Pietkiewicz (262) of Poland in a nail-biting tie.u00a0

In the men’s singles, Ghosh triumphed over Julien Indeherberg of Belgium in a six-game win to set up a date with the World No 2 Long Ma of China.
Anthony Amalraj was given an entry among the top 128 paddlers while Achantha Sharath Kamal is seeded in the main draw. Egypt’s Ahmed Saleh, ranked 156, overwhelmed Sanil Shetty (329) in the second match of the preliminary round and Harmeet Desai (275) failed to clear the second hurdle.
As far as the mixed doubles were concerned, the pairs of Sharath Kamal-Shamini, Amalraj-Patkar, and Ghosh-Das have cleared the first round of the main draw. u00a0The pair of Aggarwal and Patkar is India’s sole envoy in the women’s doubles event.
