It's the day to pay tribute to one of our country's most popular music directorsu00a0-- Rahul Dev Burman. On his birth anniversary today, he was born on June 27, 1939 in Calcutta, CS does a recap on this musical genius' life:
>>u00a0According to stories, when Ashok Kumar saw a newborn R D Burman uttering the syllable Pa repeatedly, he nicknamed Burman as Pancham.u00a0



>>u00a0At the age of nine, he composed his first song, Aye Meri Topi Palat Ke Aa, which his father, S D Burman, used in the film Funtoosh (1956).

>>u00a0Burman has composed for 331 released films.u00a0

>>u00a0Burman's first hit film was Teesri Manzil (1966). In 1968, Burman had his second major box office hit Padosan.

>>u00a0In Sholay (1975), he sang Mehbooba Mehbooba and received his sole Filmfare nomination for playback singing.

>>u00a0Burman married Rita Patel in 1966, but got divorced in 1971. He then married Asha Bhosle in 1980.

>>u00a0He brought fusion and retro in Indian music. He was very fond of original sounds and experimented a lot. Once he spent one whole night recording the sound of rainfall in Khandala.

>>u00a0His songs were also inspired from musical styles of ABBA.

>>u00a0Burman suffered from a heart attack in 1988 and underwent heart surgery. He passed away on January 4, 1994

>>u00a0That same year, the music of 1942: A Love Story (released after his death) got much appreciation. The film won him the third and last of his Filmfare Awards. He'd won earlier the Filmfare Best Music Director Award for Sanam Teri Kasam (1982) and Masoom (1983).
