Can't see eye to eye: Earlier this year, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav had expelled Jaya Prada from the party, along with Amar Singh, for indulging in anti-party activities. File pic | Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's sexist remarks on the Women's Reservation Bill has been slammed by all politicians, cutting across party lines.
Former Samajwadi Party member Jaya Prada, who was expelled from the party last month, spoke out against her former boss.
"I never expected such a statement from Netaji. This is a consequence of his perverted thoughts towards the women of this country. He has insulted all the women who are participating in the parliamentary system in India," she fumed.
Prada also requested the Women's Commission of India to take strict action against Yadav.
"I have never understood why Mulayam Singh has been opposing the Women's Bill. This statement has cleared all my doubts and I now feel that it was this anti-women feeling due to which he expelled me from the party. I had always respected him like a father-figure, but he has insulted me," said Prada.
'Global conspiracy'
Earlier, on March 14, Yadav had claimed that the Women's Bill was an 'international conspiracy'. "The Women's Reservation Bill is an international conspiracy.
It will eventually weaken Indian democracy," Yadav had said at a press conference in Lucknow.

"I completely disagree with Jaya Prada's statement. I respect the statement made by Mulayam Singh on the Women's Reservation Bill. He said this in a larger perspective where the backward class women will hardly be getting an opportunity to be represented in parliament and the women from big political and bureaucratic families will get the opportunity. Jaya Prada is lying and her statement is totally fabricated. SP leader Abu Azmi |

If you cannot do much for the women of our society, at least do not insult them. At least do not deride them, at least do not make fun of them. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Congress spokesman
It is shocking, retrograde and the most obnoxious statement from a person who made his own daughter-in-law stand for Lok Sabha elections. Tarun Vijay, BJP spokesperson
Such a childish statement is unbecoming of a person who was a chief minister and even a Union Minister at one point. Swami Prasad Maurya, BSP state president | |
