The Conjuring Last Rites
Ed and Lorraine Warren's latest outing, The Conjuring: Last Rites, has tasted roaring success. The last film in the popular horror franchise had a great opening weekend at the Indian box office by earning Rs 60.40 crore. However, it is in the news for the wrong reasons today. During the film screening at Chinchwad multiplex, massive fight erupted between couple and a techie, after which a police complaint was filed.
The screening of horror movie turned chaotic when a man's loud commentary to his wife irritated a nearby techie, leading to a physical altercation that left the techie and his wife injured. Following the altercation, the 29-year-old techie and his wife from Bijlinagar in Chinchwad received preliminary treatment at a nearby hospital and subsequently lodged a complaint with the Chinchwad police on Sunday.
The police identified the accused man and his wife as residents of Pimpri's Vallabhnagar. "In his complaint, the techie alleged that the accused (Vallabhnagar resident) was seated behind him and kept narrating the movie's story to his wife. This prompted the techie to politely ask him to stop spoiling the suspense for him and his wife and sister (who were accompanying him)," sub-inspector S Mohite of the Chinchwad police told TOI.
With a roaring opening globally, collecting $187 million, the Michael Chaves directorial has turned out to be the second-biggest global debut in history for a horror film, closely following the 2017 film 'It', which made $190 million, as per Variety. It is worth mentioning that the Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson starrer had the biggest debut in the Conjuring universe across 41 overseas markets, including the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, the UK, and all of Latin America.
A fourth mainline entry and ninth including spin-offs, The Conjuring: Last Rites shows the lead pair, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, returning as the real-life occult investigators, Lorraine and Ed Warren. Chaves is also back to helm the entry, having handled the previous 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' and the 2023 spin-off The Nun II.
